Over the past 12 months we have had 8 installers pass through their gas training to become Gas Safe qualified.
This brings DBD’s total number of Gas Safe registered installers at present to 19 out of a total number of 25 (76%).
We also have 1 installer part way through his training and 2 more booked in for later this year and a plan to have a 100% of our installation teams duel fuel qualified in the future.
Although electric hobs have improved a lot over the years and induction hobs are increasing in popularity, gas hobs make up a large number of our hob installations as gas continues to be very popular due to its instant heat and precise control. There are also new modern designs coming out all the time which look amazing and will suit any kitchen design and cooking requirement.
The training involves a period of time in the class room (around 3 – 4 weeks) at one of the approved training centres we use around the country and then specific on the job training and supervision whilst building up a portfolio of work which goes towards achieving the final qualification. At DBD this training is not only working with an experienced fully qualified Gas Safe installer but also includes working with our Technical Training Manager (Steve Davey) in our dedicated training kitchen at DBD HQ as well as on site. This ‘one to one’ training ensures our installers are not only qualified but they feel confident with the whole process of installing, testing and commissioning gas cooking appliances. Once the portfolio is complete the candidate returns to the classroom for final training and assessments and once this is completed we can add them to the Gas Safe register and we gain another asset to our installation team.
