Get to Know the People at DBD – Kevin Pettitt

Another month and another interview for you! This issue of InSite we are speaking with Kevin Pettitt.

Kevin Pettitt 4How long have you been at DBD?
I’ve been at DBD for nearly 9 years! I started at DBD on 12th August 2008.

What department do you work in?
I work in the Operations department as a Contracts Manager. The colleagues I work closely with are  Martin Appleyard, Tom Kenward, Jon French, Wayne Balaam, Steve Davey, Martin Brigham and Nick Grimsley.

What does your job role involve?
I look after our projects in London and part of East Anglia. As you can imagine we have a lot of projects in London. Approx. 150 at present! My main role is to ensure that all new projects run as smoothly as possible. This involves regularly liaising with site managers so that solid working relationships are built. I look after the project from cradle to grave, this requires that I check they have the correct appliances, that the job meets the specification and that I’m on hand to trouble shoot any issues as and when they arrive. Quality is a big part of my role – ensuring that we install right first time all the time.

What skills has your role taught you?
Patience – you have to be patient in the role because sadly not everything always goes to plan.
To listen-You also need to listen carefully because there’s always two sides to every story.

How does DBD compare to past jobs you’ve had?
DBD is the only company I’ve worked for. Before DBD I was self-employed and worked as a subcontractor installing kitchens for a major supplier. However, when I came to DBD I was an Installations supervisor first, both roles have given me a great understanding of the construction industry.

How do you feel about your team?
I work with a great bunch of lads who have a wealth of experience in the industry and the girls in the office are a delight to work with. I see DBD as one big family.

What helps to motivate you every day?
Everyday throws a new challenge at me, so it keeps me busy. But at DBD we work together as one team to resolve any issues that may arise.

What aspirations do you have for you career at DBD?
I’m really happy and content in my role. I just want to keep doing the best I can.
