We really hope you are enjoying our new series ‘Get to know the people at DBD’. This month we will be talking to one of our longest serving colleagues, Jeanette Pearce.
What is your job role and what department do you work in?
I work as the Company Finance Manager in our Finance department.
What does your job role involve?
I oversee the finances of the company – including its cash flow. This includes everything from purchasing trucks to paperclips. I make sure we manage the company’s funds in the most effective and efficient way. I also run the payroll for the company and deal with the requirements of the HMRC.
Did you have to do any training for your role?
No not to start with, I was just involved in data entry and assisting with the purchase ledger part time while looking after my kids, doing the school run etc. 7 years ago I decided to go for a professional qualification and study the AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) which took me 3 years to complete. The qualification has not only given me useful skills but it has also given me great confidence in my role.
How long have you been at DBD and how has it changed since then?
I started August 1992 so 23 years this year and I’ve seen a lot of changes. When I first started there was only about 10 of us, since then we have kept growing and growing and have moved premises a number of times to keep up with the growth. We now have 139 on payroll!
How does DBD compare to past jobs you’ve had?
After school I worked as an office junior. Then, when I had children I took jobs that fitted in with the family. DBD have been amazingly supportive to me throughout the years, individually they really care and support each of us which I am very grateful for.
How do you feel about your team?
Without Carol I wouldn’t be able to do my job, she is superb and works hard which allows me to be able to focus on my role. It’s great having Danielle on board to.
What motivates you in your daily role?
The company has been very supportive so in turn I want the best for the company. I appreciate how the managers take a personal interest in me and this is a real motivation. I also take pride in what I do, I want to do the best I can in the role I’m in.
What aspirations do you have for your future at DBD?
I want to continue supporting the company in the finance team. I want to see them go from strength to strength and help them to continually improve so that we can all have a happy and secure future.
